Win After Win

The wrestling team seems to have picked up right where they left off after the National Championship win last year. Humble head coach Cael Sanderson has begun his fifth season here in Happy Valley and has built the number one college-wrestling program in the country. Three years in a row the program has led to a first place NCAA trophy and Coach Sanderson hopes this year will be the same.

The Nittany Lions entered this season with nine ranked individuals: senior David Taylor- No.1 at 165, senior Ed Ruth- No. 1 at 184, junior Matt Brown- No. 3 at 175, junior Nico Megaludis- No. 3 at 125, junior Andrew Alton- No. 8 at 149, junior Dylan Alton- No. 6 at 157, junior heavyweight Jimmy Lawson- No.11 at 285, sophomore Morgan McIntosh- No. 4 at 197, and red shirt freshman Jimmy Gulibon- No. 16 at 133.

PSU will be hosting eight matches this year at Rec Hall; three of which have been completed so far. The team is undefeated with a record of 7-0, 1-0 in the conference. In order, they’ve checked off wins against Rider, Lehigh, Lock Haven, Boston University, Pittsburgh, Ohio State, and a huge win against rival Iowa.

Coach Sanderson and the team continue to live up to their No. 1 ranking. After a long off-season of recruiting and practice, Penn State’s dedication and hard work has already started to pay off. Many excited students, alumni, and fans can’t wait to see what the rest of this season has in store.
