Penn State Women’s Soccer Fall to No. 14 BYU
The 2015 National Champions faced their first home loss Friday to the BYU Cougars after a rally late into the second half. Junior Frannie Crouse scored for the Nittany Lions and notched an assist while sophomore Charlotte Williams also added a goal.
Penn State began the game slow, falling behind in the sixth minute after BYU player Ashley Hatch scored her third goal of the season. After the early wake-up call, the Nittany Lions were able to limit chances for the Cougars for the rest of the half.
In the second half, BYU struck again, scoring in the 56th minute with another goal from Hatch, this time from 10 yards out. Minutes later, Penn State was able to get one on the board with a 62nd minute goal from Frannie Crouse. Jeffrey Field went crazy once again a few minutes later as Charlotte Williams was able to equalize for the Nittany Lions and keep the game level at two.
The tied game was only temporary as BYU would score another goal just 12 minutes later to lead in the 78th. For the rest of the game, Penn State worked tirelessly to level the game once again, but fell short.
"Another great Friday night crowd here at Jeffrey Field," head coach Erica Dambach said. "Just as we saw last Friday night the crowd almost helped us tie the game up at the end. The crowd was certainly a huge part of it. I'm really proud of the push we made, to get back after going two goals down, especially with a little bit of an unexperienced group right now, but I believe we can grow from it."
The Nittany Lions are now 1-1-1 on the season and head out to California this weekend as they take on No. 15 UCLA and Long Beach State.
