Penn State Homecoming Weekend 2013
Happy homecoming! If you’re planning on making a trip back to Penn State, this is the ideal weekend! Thousands of alumni will be making their way back to campus to take place in some homecoming events. Why not come out to enjoy some football and meet up with some long lost friends?
Here’s a quick overview of this weekend’s events. There’s a little something for everyone!
This Friday the Alumni Association will be hosting a student- alumni social at the Hintz Family Alumni Center between 1 PM and 4 PM. Entertainment will be provided by the Alumni Blue Band!
The homecoming parade starts at 6 PM Friday evening. The parade will make its way through the streets of campus and State College Borough. It will include more than 200 student, community and alumni organizations, The Blue Band, a 40-foot long lion cub balloon and of course, the Nittany Lion!
Immediately following the parade, the “Guard the Lion Shrine” will take place. The Penn State ROTC will volunteer their time and stand guard at the shrine in the northeast part of campus. This event will be equipped with music, activities and food.
The Penn State Men's Hockey team will host their first game in the Pegula Ice Arena Friday at 8pm against Army. This is the first game to be played in the brand new arena, so come be a part of Penn State history!
Saturday's game day! Penn State will take on Michigan at 5pm. Don't forget to wear white! This game is an ALL stadium white out!
On Sunday from 1 PM to 6 PM the Arboretum will hold its third annual pumpkin festival. The festival will run from October 13th until the 19th. There will be a pumpkin carving contest and those entered can come by either Sunday or Monday to claim a free pumpkin. If you do plan on grabbing one, make sure you get there early because pumpkins will be given away on a first come, first serve basis. The judging will begin on Friday the 18th between 6 PM and 7PM. The contest entries will then be lite and placed on display on the lawn of the Smith Botanic Gardens from 6 PM to 9 PM both Friday and Saturday.
Have a great weekend, stay safe and enjoy the beautiful fall weather!
