Men’s Soccer Tie Wisconsin 2-2
Penn State men’s soccer played their final away game of the regular season against Big Ten opponent Wisconsin on Saturday, ending in a thrilling 2-2 draw. Sam Bollinger and Drew Klingenberg got the goals for the Lions while Evan Finney got the start again after his amazing performance against Loyola Marymount last Wednesday.
Saturday’s matchup saw almost all of the action in the second half. While the first half ended with the Badgers having eight shots on goal compared to Penn State’s seven, the first half of play ended scoreless thanks to great defensive work from Wisconsin’s goalie Adrian Remeniiuk and Penn State’s Evan Finney.
In the second half, Wisconsin opened the scoring, grabbing the first goal of the match in the 50th minute. Badger forward Christopher Mueller sent the ball to the corner beating Finney to give Wisconsin the lead. Minutes later, Penn State equalized the game after a goal from Sam Bollinger.
The game appeared to be back and forth from both sides up until the 78th minute when midfielder Drew Klingenberg got the go-ahead-goal for Lions. While it appeared that Penn State would leave Wisconsin with the win, Badger player Mike Catalano tied the game with six minutes to play.
Both teams headed into overtime but were unable to find the winning goal and the match ended with a 2-2 tie after 110 minutes of play. The Lions move to 6-6-3 overall on the season and finish off their regular season at home against Northwestern on Sunday, November 1st at 1 p.m. The November 1st match is Senior Day and the Annual THON soccer game.
