Men’s Soccer Drops Third-Straight Match Against Indiana
Penn State men’s soccer was on the road over the weekend as the team headed to Indiana in hopes of ending their scoring drought as the team faced the Indiana Hoosiers. After 90+ minutes, the team was once again unable to produce any offense as the team suffered a 1-0 loss.
The Nittany Lions started the game slow as Indiana was able to get two shots on goal early on, forcing Penn State goalkeeper Evan Finney to come up with two big saves. The Lions were were able to get a few chances off of corner kicks in the first half, but all of the chances were blocked by a strong Indiana defense and Hoosier goalkeeper Colin Webb who recorded four saves on the night.
Indiana’s winning goal came in the 36th minute as Cory Thomas was able to put the ball past Penn State’s keeper after an assist from Hoosier forward Trevor Swartz. Indiana was able to put six shots on goal during the match while also outshooting the Lions 16-12.
Throughout the second half, Penn State began to put more pressure on the Indiana defense with shots by sophomore Dayonn Harris and Pierre Reedy, but Indiana’s defense once again proved too much for the Nittany Lions and the team was handed their third-straight shutout loss. With the score, Penn State is now 4-6-1 on the season and 2-3-0 in Big Ten play.
Penn State looks to gain some momentum as the team returns home for a five-game homestand starting with in-state rival the University of Pittsburgh Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Jeffrey Field. Hopefully, with the support of the home fans, Penn State can turn the season around with some much needed victories.
