Lady Lions Earn Road Win, Defeat Holy Cross 84-48
Penn State Lady Lion Basketball was back on the road Wednesday night as the team headed north to Massachusetts to take on Holy Cross and earned an impressive 84-48 win.
Junior Lindsey Spann was the game changer for the Lady Lions (7-2) as she passed 900 points Wednesday night during the game, scoring 18 points. In addition sophomore Kaliyah Mitchell pitched in with a career-high four 3-pointers to finish the game with 15 points and five rebounds.
In the first quarter, the Lady Lions set the tone as Mitchell helped the team go on a 31-12 run after a 3-point shot, and the team headed into the locker room leading 39-20 over Holy Cross (1-7).
The Lady Lions did not look back in the second half, scoring a season-high 49 points and limiting Holy Cross to only 28 points. The team was also aggressive on defense, forcing numerous turnovers and grabbing some defensive stops.
Looking at the stat sheet, the Lady Lions not only shot 51% from the field, but also outrebounded Holy Cross 39-26. In addition, the Lady Lion bench helped out with 21 points, and sophomore Ashanti Thomas scored a career-high nine points with Siyeh Frazier recording a career-high five points.
With the win, the team is riding on a three game winning streak and hold some key wins, including an upset against ranked Tennessee Volunteers. The Lady Lions are back in action on Saturday as they take on the University of Pittsburgh on the road. The game is set to tip-off at 2:00 p.m.
