Lady Lions Defeat Sacred Heart, 83 – 46

The Penn State women’s basketball team defeated Sacred Heart at home Sunday to finish their non-conference slate and gain their fifth win of the 2015-2016 campaign.

Penn State outscored their opponent in every quarter of the game and became the first team this season to score more than 70 points against Sacred Heart. Lindsey Spann led the charge for the Lady Lions, scoring 23 points and adding five rebounds and five assists on the night. Three other Lady Lions added double-figure points to the game with junior Kaliyah Mitchell posting her second double-double of the season with 15 points and 11 rebounds.

Throughout the afternoon, Penn State forced 22 turnovers and their defensive effort left Sacred Heart shooting 34 percent from the floor while only two of their players reached double digits in scoring. The Lady Lions finished the match shooting 44 percent from the floor while going 19 for 22 on the free-throw line. Penn State also limited their defensive mistakes during the game, committing a season-low eight turnovers.

After finishing their non-conference schedule with a record of 5-6, the Lady Lions return to the Bryce Jordan Center on New Year’s Eve as they take on Northwestern for the first Big Ten Conference game of the season. Tipoff for the game begins at 2 p.m. and the game will also be streamed live on BTN Plus and the Penn State Sports Network.
